Sabbath

Genesis 2:2-4 (The Message)

2-4 By the seventh day God had finished his
work. On the seventh day
he rested from all his work.
God blessed the seventh day.
He made it a Holy Day
Because on that day he rested from his work,
all the creating God had done.
This is the story of how it all started,
of Heaven and Earth when they were created.

If God the greatest worker rested, why don't we?

"[The Sabbath] is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed" (Exodus 31:17). The Message says that on the seventh day, God "stopped and took a long, deep breath."

God stopped and was refreshed. How often do we feel refreshed? How often do we clear our minds of all our earthly tasks and trials and bask in the warming glow of God's grace, breathing deeply of his reinvigorating love?

Is it really any wonder why so many of us feel so burnt out and exhausted? Are there any among us who still have the discipline to set an example: to plan ahead, to stop and to truly rest? And does the setup of the typical Sunday service encourage rest, or has it here made concessions to accomodate culture just as it has on so many other fronts?
Ahh is this your attempt to remind me that I indeed need to honor Thursdays as a day of rest?
Well said, by the way.

Silence in worship - wouldn't that be a blessing.
