Living as Jesus Commanded (Matthew 1 - 9)

What would our lives look like if we actually lived the way Christ asked us to live?  I personally find it quite difficult to live as he commanded.  Here are some of the things he asked for:

  • Be baptized (Mt. 3:15)
  • Live on the Word of God (Mt. 4:4)
  • Do not put God to the test (Mt. 4:7)
  • Worship the Lord and serve Him only (Mt. 4:10)
  • Repent (Mt. 4:17)
  • Follow Jesus (Mt. 4:19 & repeated several times)
  • Fish for people (Mt. 4:19)
  • Rejoice in the midst of persecution (Mt. 5:12)
  • Let your light shine through good deeds (Mt. 5:12)
  • Practice & teach God's law (Mt. 5:19)
  • Quickly reconcile with others (Mt. 5:23)
  • Do not look at anyone lustfully (Mt. 5:28)
  • Don't divorce, commit adultery, or marry someone who is divorced (Mt. 5:32)
  • Don't make oaths, just say "yes" or "no" (Mt. 5:36)
  • Do not resist an evil person (Mt. 5:39)
  • Give to the one who asks - do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow (Mt. 5:42)
  • Be perfect like your Father in heaven (Mt. 5:48)
  • Don't practice your righteousness to be seen by others (Mt. 6:1)
  • Give to the needy in secret (Mt. 6:3)
  • Pray in the private of your closed door room (Mt 6:6)
  • Be concise in your prayers, don't babble (Mt. 6:7)
  • Forgive others (Mt. 6:14)
  • Fast in secret (Mt. 6:17-18)
  • Store up treasures for yourself in heaven, not on earth (Mt. 6:20)
  • Serve God only (Mt. 6:24)
  • Do not worry (Mt. 6:25, 34)
  • Seek first God's kingdom & righteousness (Mt. 6:33)
  • Do not judge (Mt. 7:1)
  • Fix your own faults (Mt. 7:5)
  • Do not give what is precious to those who will abuse it (Mt. 7:6)
  • Ask, Seek, and Knock (Mt. 7:7)
  • In everything, do to others what you would have them do to  you (Mt. 7:12)
  • Enter through the narrow gate (Mt. 7:13)
  • Watch out for false prophets (Mt 7:15)
  • Do the will of God the Father (Mt. 7:21)
  • Learn what "I desire mercy, not sacrifice" means (Mt. 9:13)
  • Keep miracles private (over and over again)
  • Ask God to send out workers into the harvest (Mt. 9:38)

They touched Jesus, but then, how did they pray?

I'm sitting in my room praying and thinking, "After the resurrection did the disciples pray to Jesus?" Just imagine this with me for a moment. You have spent the past 2 - 3 years of your life following this intriguing man around, your feet are calloused, your memory is overflowing with moments around the campfire or dinner table, and you've been challenged to completely shift your Jewish worldview. Question: Multi-generational ministry

What do you think is good about churches that focus on reaching a specific age group? What do you think some of the disadvantages are? Would you rather be part of a multi-generational interactive community or a community of peers? (Assuming both are in the context of Christian fellowship.)
