Who is God?

We don't get to define God.  God gets to define us.  See Psalm 78 & Matthew 13

My Interpretation: Franz Kafka's "A Message from the Emperor."

A young man sits dreaming out his window, looking out across the sky at the beautiful sunset and the painted sky.  He dreams of another life and as his mind wanders he dreams of receiving recognition, just once, through the attention of the man his people honor with the title of "emperor."  He realizes that it is just a title, and the man is an ordinary man, but the title still makes this man special and revered.  So special, in fact, that they are willing to move walls and structures in order for people to honor this man.  The boy sits and dreams and imagines this "emperor" as weak and dying and in the midst of his great weakness the "emperor"sends a message to this Chinese boy who sits at the edge of the empire.  To the boy, he recognizes the reality that a thing like this would never happen, but in his fantasy he also realizes that a message like this would never make it to him, because he is too unimportant and too far off and there are too many peopl...

Another Poem: Distant Glow of God's Rays

There is none like You. There is nothing in all of Creation that compares to You. When I reflect upon Your greatness the things of this world look dull, even life itself - a shadow. Your glory is so bright and we live in the distant glow of your rays. How amazing You are, O God! Oh, what it will be like to stand, or kneel, or even fall in the full presence of Your grace! Amen.

Billowing Light - an attempt at poetry

So, I don't write poetry often, but observing the pattern of the week and the weather outside, I felt compelled to write. I feel the raindrops swelling on my eyes. I see the green waves flowing over high. I see the mountain breath crisping in the air. And I feel the drowned out cloud of despair. Yet I stand here Not yet alone. God's grace billows a soft blue tone. My heart quickens beat as the light does not retreat .... and the dish runs away with the spoon.... Okay, this is where I am stuck - on the very last line. how about and angelic whispers remind me of home. So.... I feel the raindrops swelling on my eyes. I see the green waves flowing over high. I see the mountain breath crisping in the air. And I feel the drowned out cloud of despair. Yet I stand here Not yet alone. God's grace billows a soft blue tone. My heart quickens beat as the light does not retreat. And angelic whispers remind me of home.

Modern Psalm - Voice of God (reflective of Psalm 29:3-4, 77:16-19)

How do we hear you, O LORD, when no one is listening? Why do you speak so quietly when your voice is a Thunderous Roar? We don't take you seriously we expect your voice to remain silent and yet Your voice is so loud. You speak in the thunder and the lightening. You speak in the waterfalls and the lapping of waves. You are all around us. Your Voice beats out in nature, but we've been deceived so we no longer hear you there. Open our ears and our minds to hear you once again. Amen.

Psalm 36:5-10 modernized - All praise is due God.

Your gracious care, O Lord, extends beyond our human race, it enfolds plant life, animals, nature, and even angels! Your covenant of love has no borders. Jesus, Your perfection has grandeur greater than  St. Helens, Mt. Everest, and the Alps combined. The depth of wisdom to your judgments, who can comprehend? Through them you bring about life for both humanity and the animal kingdom. How great of value is Our Mighty One! We find comfort and safety in Your wake. Your supply is overwhelming, You not only provide for our needs, but delight in our pleasures as well. You are our womb. From within Your being, we gain vision and sight. Persevere, O Lord, in being our teddy bear, the One who comforts and loves us and invites us to be intimately known. Share Your perfection with us, and make our hearts right like Your own. Amen.

Giving God the Glory through Poetry

Holy ecstasy that is what I feel in Your Divine Presence Holy ecstasy I feel selfish in the joy I discover in Your presence Nothing can compete with this pleasure of honoring Your holy Name. When I put you first, my whole world changes, it improves faster than overnight. You must be jealous of this change in me.
